Student Residence Permit

Pursue your studies in Hungary

We specialize in providing expert assistance to international students seeking to obtain a student residence permit in Hungary. Let's delve into the specifics of this process and how our services can streamline it for you.

Eligibility

To qualify for a student residence permit in Hungary, you must first enroll in a Hungarian educational institution for full-time studies. Whether you're pursuing a degree program or participating in preparatory courses, meeting the institution's language requirements and paying the necessary fees are essential steps. Additionally, you'll need to fulfill specific conditions outlined by Hungarian law and provide a valid domestic address within Hungary.

Who's Ineligible?

While Hungary welcomes international students with open arms, there are some exceptions. Individuals seeking refugee status or temporary protection, those already recognized as refugees, or granted temporary or complementary protection are ineligible for student residence permits. Similarly, individuals under deportation suspension, those with the right of free movement and residence, and certain categories of skilled workers from third countries are excluded from this category.

If you are an EU or EEA citizen, gain more insight by checking out our EEA registration page.

Duration and Extensions

Once you've obtained your student residence permit, you're good to go as an international student for at least a year, with the option to extend it for up to three years. However, the permit's validity cannot exceed the expiration date of your travel document. Need more time to complete your studies? No problem – you can renew your permit, but be mindful of the deadlines.

Working While Studying

Balancing work and studies is a reality for many students. With an international student residence permit in Hungary, you're allowed to work up to 30 hours per week during term time and full-time during breaks for up to 90 days. It's a great opportunity to gain valuable work experience while immersing yourself in Hungarian culture.

Life After Graduation

Upon successfully completing your studies, you have options. International student graduates can apply for a job search permit or entrepreneurship residence permit, allowing them to stay in Hungary for up to nine months after their student permit expires to explore career opportunities or start their own businesses. It's a fantastic chance to put your newfound skills to use and contribute to Hungary's vibrant economy.
